Communication Sciences and Disorders
Would you like to help people who have a condition that affects how they hear, listen, swallow, communicate, speak, read, write or interact with others? As part of their studies, students in communication sciences and disorders observe actual therapy sessions with children and adults who have some sort of communication disorder. After graduation, many students pursue a master’s degree to become certified speech-language pathologists or audiologists. Employment prospects in this high-demand field are excellent—the field is expected to be in the top 20 fastest-growing professions in the United States. Graduates usually work in schools or health-care settings. Think about how your life would be altered if you suddenly lost the ability to communicate, and consider helping those who are living with this reality every day.

Alumni Advice to Future Students:
"The best aspect of the (CSD program) at K-State is the people. I was fortunate to have a terrific advisor who is dedicated to helping her students succeed after their undergraduate experience. Whether they continue their education at K-State or another university, she is very supportive. In addition to my advisor, I also really enjoyed my professors. They did a nice job of teaching us a basic foundation and making sure they were there for any questions that we had.” — Michelle Molander, ’04 in communication sciences and disorders, master’s student in speech-language pathology at the University of Kansas
