Apparel and Textiles:
Apparel Design & Production Specialization
Do you dream of seeing your designs paraded down the runways of New York, Milan and Paris? If so, the first step is to major in apparel and textiles. As an A&T student, during your second year you can apply for the apparel design and production specialization. This global industry combines the high-tech world of manufacturing and computer design with the creativity and discipline of the fine arts. Students graduate with the creative training, technical expertise and business know-how to succeed in positions in the fashion capitals of the world. Recent K-State graduates are taking the New York fashion industry by storm! Some of today’s brightest, most hard-working and talented new designers were raised in the Midwest — proving once-and-for-all that you don’t have to grow up in a major urban area to be the next big thing.

Alumni Advice to Future Students:
“Take as many classes as are offered in the program. Definitely do an internship. Take classes in related fields — costume design, metalsmithing, graphic design and any art classes. The more well-rounded you are, the easier it is to get a job.” — Jenessa Graf, ’04 in Apparel and Textiles, handbag designer at Mondani in New York
"K-State’s program is extremely personable. Classes are small enough for everyone to get equal attention from the professors, yet big enough to challenge each other. The professors are also incredibly motivating and nice. They don’t limit your imagination. If you want to do it, they’ll find a way to help you make it happen. Their doors are always open… (After graduation) I did get a lot of respect for what I already knew straight out of college, which allowed me to skip a couple of positions and move up right from the start.” — MelEsa Lorett, ’04 in Apparel and Textiles, associate designer, RLX Polo Ralph Lauren
