Mentor Connection

September 2015

Greetings! I’d like to welcome new mentors who have just joined the Professional Mentoring Program, and thank you to all mentors for devoting some of your time to a student in the College of Human Ecology! The program is growing and students are excited to learn from professionals in their fields of study.

To get you started with your student mentee for the new academic year, please take a look at the Top 10 Best Practices for Mentors from the Center for Mentoring Excellence’s website. These are excellent guidelines to follow and work towards while working with your mentee. Try to devote at least an hour a month for a meaningful conversation (by phone, Skype or in-person) with your mentee. This allows you to get to know one another and to have engaging conversations that aren’t rushed. Keep in mind that it is your mentee’s responsibility to drive the relationship, initiate communication and meetings with you. Please encourage your mentee to take the lead.

Finally, please mark your calendars for two events this fall. The College of Human Ecology will be hosting two hospitality tailgate events in Cat Town two hours prior to kick-off at the following football games:
Saturday, October 17 – K-State vs. Oklahoma (Homecoming)
Saturday, November 21 – K-State vs. Iowa State

This is a great opportunity to enjoy lunch on us and to connect in-person with your mentee.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
