  • Historic Preservation of the built environment and issues of sustainability as they relate to the built environment
  • I also do some scholarship of teaching; I'm specifically interested in how the values students hold affect their approach to learning and career choices

  • Sustainable apparel consumption
  • Effects of the apparel industry on the natural environment
  • Eco-conscious consumer decision making
  • Open to working with students on any projects related to environmental and/or social sustainability and the apparel industry and sustainable apparel design

  • Lighting for the vision impaired and lighting for interior
  • Adapted reuse of K-12 educational facilities

  • Topics involving natural dyes or sustainable design solutions
  • Topics for natural dyes could include: history, growing, color extraction, dyeing, or surface design with natural dyes
  • Topics for sustainable design could include designing for: reduction of fabric waste, size-ability, re-usability, or redesign with existing product

  • Interested in finding out how communities provide student housing

  • Environment and aging with specific interest in the long-term care planning and design issues
  • I am currently working quite a bit with the specifics of skilled care settings and special care units
  • Changing the culture of care through planning and design to support a hierarchy of public to private space
  • Material specification issues for the interior environments in skilled care settings (right now - carpet)
  • Interior design education - multidisciplinary collaboration in design education
  • Assessment of interior design education - investigating how to better evaluate outcomes
  • Sustainable material specifications for architectural planning and design in long-term care settings
Joy Kozar

Current and future areas of scholarship and research:

  • Consumer loyalty and purchasing behavior, particularly research on the older adult market segment
  • Social and psychological aspects of dress and appearance, including topics examining social comparison and media and advertising influence on body image, satisfaction and self-perception
  • Global issues in the production and distribution of apparel and textile goods, including topics related to social responsibility, labor exploitation in the production of goods, and governmental and industry responses to sweatshop concerns

  • Disconnect between consumers' globally responsible attitudes and behavior
  • Customer loyalty
  • Tourism and mall patronage sustainable apparel consumption practices
  • Green marketing strategies of apparel firms
  • Global citizenship practices of apparel consumers and companies
  • Projects investigating: store image, customer loyalty, consumer complaint behavior, store layout and design, textile/apparel recycling, sustainable apparel consumption, social and/or environmental responsibility, entrepreneurship strategies, and green or cause-related marketing
  • I am open to any project ideas related to consumer behavior, retail strategies, social/environmental responsibility or sustainability
