Financial planners to offer free advice on May 1

Monday, April 20, 2015

Financial planning professionals from around Kansas will offer pro bono financial advice to students and the community at Financial Planning Day on Friday, May 1.

Certified Financial Planners (CFP®) will be at the K-State Student Union and at the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to come by tables in front of the bookstore on the ground floor of the K-State Student Union.

CFP® professionals also will have tables at the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex providing free financial advice to K-State students and members of the complex.

The event is sponsored by the Financial Planning Association student chapter on campus and the personal financial planning program in the School of Family Studies and Human Services, College of Human Ecology.

On Tuesday, April 21, the mayor of Manhattan, Kansas, will read a proclamation announcing Financial Planning Day. K-State financial planning students will accept the proclamation.

Financial Planning Day is a project of the Foundation for Financial Planning, the CFP Board, Financial Planning Association and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The goal is to provide free financial advice for all individuals, but particularly for individuals facing financial challenges or transitions in their lives, according to Ann Coulson, assistant professor.

Funding for this effort was provided through a $1,250 grant from the Foundation for Financial Planning. Community members who use the K-State parking garage will be reimbursed through the grant.
