Athletic training students honored for academic achievements

The Kansas Athletic Trainers Society recently honored undergraduate students for their academic achievements in accredited athletic education programs in Kansas.
First team all-academic honors, for juniors or higher during the 2014 calendar year and have maintained a minimum of 3.8 grade point average, were awarded to Ryan Lahey, Wichita; Cecelia Lane, Goddard; and Jessica Steele, Garnett.
Second team honors, requiring a minimum 3.6 GPA, went to Nicole Perrin, Overland Park; Jessica Spencer, DeSoto; Mitchell Savage, Greenleaf; Brandy Tholstrup, Wichita; Erica Dubek, Prosper, Texas; and Bridgette Westhoff, Olathe.
Students receiving honorable mention, sophomore status or higher with a minimum of 3.4 GPA, were:
Michelle Bowman, Kearney, Neb.; Megan Domann, Nortonville; Quay Hervey, Belle Plaine; Hannah Lindsey, Stockton; Michael Schlit, Lenexa; Katherine Salvin, Tonganoxie; Sarah Thies, Olathe; Katelyn Musil, Blue Rapids; Jordan Walter, Beloit; and Paige Blackmon, Prosper, Texas.
Students in the athletic training program in the Department of Human Nutrition, College of Human Ecology, study the concepts and skills necessary to properly manage the healthcare problems associated with physical activity. They prepare for careers as allied-health professionals and for the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification examination, leading to certification and the credential of certified athletic trainer.
