ID programs ranks in top 10 in U.S.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

The interior design program at K-State has been ranked in the top 10 in the United States.

The ranking, published in the November/December issue of DesignIntelligence, is based on a survey of principals, design directors and human resource directors from 392 professional practice organizations in the United States. They were asked to name the schools from which they have had the best experience hiring employees.

The 2013 list places the interior design program in a shared ranking of 8th along with Boston Architectural College, Cornell University, and Parsons The New School for Design.

Interior design is a field that addresses technical, functional, and aesthetic concerns in the design and modification of interior environments. In addition, the College of Human Ecology interior design program emphasizes design to support and enhance the psychological and physiological well-being of building users.

“Our graduates experience tremendous employment opportunities and success in multi-disciplinary architecture and design firms,” said Migette Kaup, associate professor in the Department of Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design and program coordinator. “They are hired by top architecture and design firms in the Midwest and around the country.”

DesignIntelligence is published by the Design Futures Council, a think-tank of industry leaders dedicated to anticipating and preparing for future trends in architecture and design. The council conducts the survey annually.

Also ranked are graduate and undergraduate schools in architecture, landscape architecture and industrial design.
