Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Kelcii Peck and Chelsi Thissen will be dietetic interns for the Nutrition and Health Summercise with the Norton Sound Health Corporation in Nome, Alaska, this summer.

They will learn about the Alaska native culture, the Alaskan outdoors, and community nutrition/health. The dietetics interns will also fly to remote Eskimo villages to provide community health education. Other opportunities the students will experience include: diabetes/prevention, outpatient counseling, long-term care, maternal child health, community nutrition displays, and clinical work.

They will serve as mentors to high school age assistants who will work with her during the summer to learn more about nutrition and health.

Peck is a senior in dietetics and nutrition exercise; Thissen is a senior in dietetics and public health nutrition.

They are two of only 8 students nationwide selected.
