Pesci “puts students first”

Pat Pesci, director of the hotel and restaurant management program in the Department of Hospitality Management and Dietetics, was given the 2009 Putting Students First award from the office of student life. The award recognized a faculty member who has had a clear impact on the lives of students. Pesci was honored for his commitment to students, outstanding teaching, commitment to the ethical treatment of students and advising.

Center on Aging wins national honor

Researchers at the Center on Aging, headed by Gayle Doll, received a national mature media award from the Nature Market Resource Center. The bronze honor in the training/in-service category was for “Sexuality in Nursing Homes: The Heart has no Wrinkles.” The national clearinghouse for the senior market recognizes the nation’s finest advertising, marketing and educational materials designed and produced for older adults.

Korenek publishes on student health

An article by Camille Korenek, instructor in the Department of Hospitality Management and dietetics, was published in a recent issue of Campus Dining Today. “Collaborating on Wellness at K-State” outlines activities by the student health center and the residential dining halls. “The partnership may serve as a model for other campuses looking to work with students holistically on their special diet plans,” the dietitian said.

Other new publications include: Nazarina, R.R. & Schumm, W.R. (2009). Dimensionality and reliability of a modified version of Norton's 1983 Quality Marriage Index among expectant and new Canadian mothers, Psychological Reports, 104, 379-387.
