Silk ties, ice art, healthy snacks highlight April 18 Open House

At the All-University Open House, Saturday, April 18, exhibits, entertainment and tours will show campus guests what the university’s colleges and programs has to offer. Open house, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is free and everyone is invited.

At Justin Hall, a few of the Human Ecology activities:

  • Munch at the Open Air Café where hotel and restaurant management students will serve grilled hot dogs, chips, cookies and Pepsi, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  patio.
  • Have your picture taken with your  own milk mustache.
  • Watch students transform a block of ice into an artistic creation, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Learn about sustainable design by recycling vintage silk ties into stylish buttons, 350 Justin Hall.
  • See how an original print is silk-screened onto a muslin tote bag, on the hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 251 Justin Hall.
  • Make an “ants on a log” snack and learn about healthy eating.

Other open house highlights:

  • Climb a rock wall tower, Bosco Student Plaza.
  • Decorate a gingerbread woman and learn about women in Kansas history, ground floor, Union.
  • Check out the carnival of conservation and culture, play recycling games, see a water pollution display and learn how K-State students are making a difference, quad between Waters Hall and Hale Library.
  • Watch tightrope-walking rats, ground floor, Union.
  • See a full-size cast of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skull and look through a slice of solid rock, ground floor, Union.
