FSHS senior co-chairs academic decathlon

Jessica Heath, senior in family studies and human services, served as co-chair for the academic decathlon that took place recently on campus.

Heath is member of Mortar Board, the national senior honor society hosting the Kansas Academic Decathlon. Rebecca Bush, senior in history, was co-chair.

Student teams, from 15 Kansas high schools, were tested in art, economics, mathematics, music, social sciences and language and literature. The students also wrote essays, participate in interviews and deliver prepared speeches. The decathlon featured a super quiz, in which teams earn points for correctly answering questions in a head-to-head competition.

Points earned by individual team members are combined for a total team score. The winning team, Shawnee Mission South, will represent Kansas at the 2009 U.S. Academic Decathlon, April 22-25, in Memphis, Tenn.
