Student team, Brosdahl in high cotton
Monday, September 29th, 2008
Deb Brosdahl, associate professor in Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design, will take eight students to North Carolina in October to learn how an agricultural crop becomes cloth.
With a $43,000 grant from Cotton Inc., Brosdahl and “Team Cotton” will travel to Raleigh to tour a cotton farm, a cotton gin, and a cotton mill. At Cotton Inc.’s worldwide headquarters in Cary, the K-Staters will examine how the company forecasts color, textiles, and styles for clients.
Students in Team Cotton are Juan Carlos Garcia, Brandon Selig, Megan Bartholomew, Allie Teagarden, Erica Boatman, Julie Hilton, Amanda Kerwin and Heather Palmer.
Each will conduct research and write a research paper on topics ranging from organic and recycling cotton to internet marketing practices. They also will complete case studies about the visit and develop content for a project website that is under development.
Cotton Inc.’s mission is to build a market for cotton through research and promotion.
