Campus leaders

Melodie LeHew… has been elected president-elect of K-State Faculty Senate that provides input into university policies and procedures. LeHew is associate professor in Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design. President is Fred Fairchild, grain science and industry professor.

Bronwyn Fees..chairs the Human Ecology Faculty Council this year. Joy Kozar, ATID, is chair elect. The council develops two college-wide faculty meeting annually and works with the dean on college-related issues such long-range planning and budget. At the fall faculty forum, a panel presented a variety of viewpoints on mentoring. Panelists were:Farrell Webb, Peggy Honey, Kevin Sauer, Bill Meredith, Edgar Chambers, Carissa Dorleus who graduated this spring and David Olds.

Money, money, money, money

Three faculty members received funding from the college Sponsored Research Overhead (SRO).

Deb Brosdahl, associated professor in Apparel, Textiles and Interior Design, received $2270 to support “Is green the new black? Assessing apparel and textile undergraduate students’ knowledge of and attitudes toward sustainability.” She also received a $1,240 Barbara S. Stowe Faculty Development Award to attend a conference sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.

Ann Smit, professor in Family Studies and Human Services, received $5,000 to support a pilot study on “Pressure points intervention for preschool speech sound disorders.”

Chihyung Ok, assistant professor in Hospitality Management and Dietetics, received $4,516.72 to support “Retiring to a college town: Identification of motivation factors and assessment of the attractiveness of communities in proximity to a college town.”
