K-State students join national family and consumer sciences honor society

MANHATTAN — Several students from Kansas State University were recently initiated into the Alpha Chi chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron.
A national honor society in family and consumer sciences, Phi Upsilon Omicron was founded in 1909 at the University of Minnesota. It is the oldest national family and consumer sciences honor society and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. The K-State chapter was established in 1960.
“Phi Upsilon Omicron recognizes and encourages achieved excellence in scholarship, leadership and service,” said Karen Pence, assistant dean of K-State’s College of Human Ecology. “There are 59 collegiate chapters, one international chapter, 31 alumni chapters and more than 87,170 members living throughout the United States and around the world.”
K-State students joining Phi Upsilon Omicron include:
Laci Rahjes, junior in communication sciences and disorders, Kensington; Taryn Beymer, junior in communication sciences and disorders, Lakin; Morgan Thierer, sophomore in nutritional sciences, Manhattan; Whitney Hubert, sophomore in communication sciences and disorders, Oakley; Krysta Taylor, senior in public health nutrition, Perry; Erin Pauley, sophomore in athletic training, Topeka; Sarah Beers, junior in family studies and human services, and Holli Steiner, sophomore in communication sciences and disorders, both of Wichita.
From out-of-state: Catherine Metzgar, junior in nutrition-exercise sciences, Mound City, Mo.
