K-State students attend Cargill diversity outreach event

MANHATTAN — Eight students from Kansas State University will attend Cargill’s From Backpack to Briefcase diversity outreach event April 21-23 at the company’s headquarters in Minnesota.

Zelia Wiley, assistant dean for diversity in the College of Agriculture at K-State, said the goal of the event is to introduce students to a high-performance company and what they’re looking for in top recruits. Wiley is a member of Cargill’s recruiting advisory council and was asked to recruit K-State students for the event.

“We want this generation of students to be able to work in a multicultural, diverse environment. Cargill is exemplifying that,” Wiley said. “This event will help these students see what it takes to work in a high-caliber corporation and what they need to prepare to be in the work force.”

K-State students attending the event include:

Christopher Berry, junior in electrical engineering, Junction City; James Millsap, sophomore in agribusiness, Kansas City, Kan.; Noah Strozier, senior in management, Manhattan; James Bennett, sophomore in chemical engineering, Topeka; and Rykki Belt, junior in biological and agricultural engineering, Ulysses.

From out of state: Jael Jackson, graduate student in regional and community planning, Forsyth, Ga.; Willie Scott Jr., graduate student in agricultural economics, Port Gibson, Miss.; and Nicholas Lee, sophomore in agricultural economics, Daingerfield, Texas.
