Employment Prospects
Four of the top ten causes of death in the United States—heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes—are linked to diet. K-State’s nutrition graduates are helping meet the goal of a healthier America through nutrition education, fitness counseling and medical care.
Interest in nutrition and fitness is at an all-time high. Recent bachelor’s degree graduates are employed as:
- Director of a corporate wellness center
- Nutritionist for WIC, a government nutrition program
- Exercise physiologist
- Physician
- Physical therapist
Graduate study in the nutrition program prepares students for various academic and human services positions, including:
- Dietitians or nutrition consultants for hospitals and community organizations
- As extension specialists, nutritionists and nutrition education coordinators through government agencies
- Professors or researchers at universities and community colleges
Master’s degree and doctoral degree graduates are employed often in industry as:
- Directors of food product development and sensory evaluation divisions
- Senior food scientists
- Managers of quality assurance and test kitchens
- Directors of consumer services and technical representatives.
