Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management

Work Related Experience Courses

  • HM 275 is a course that requires students to work for a minimum of 200 hours in a new operation or position.
    • As a result of this experience, students will:
      • obtain practical on-the-job experience using the skills, aptitude, and knowledge gained in an academic setting;
      • learn general operating processes and systems in a hospitality setting;
      • develop an understanding of how different departments function; and
      • practice oral and written communication

  • HM 375 is a course that requires a minimum of 300 hours of work experience in a new or different position, specific to a student’s chosen track of interest within the hospitality industry.
    • As a result of this experience, students will:
      • obtain practical on-the-job experience using the skills, aptitude and knowledge gained in the academic setting;
      • learn general operating processes and systems in a hospitality setting;
      • develop an understanding of how different department function; and
      • practice oral and written communication

Internship Requirements

  • HM 475 is a structured internship experience in the hospitality industry. This internship requires 400 hours of industry-related experience.
    • As a result of this course, students will:
      • Increase their understanding of one specific segment of the hospitality business
      • Assist the sponsoring organization with in-house projects
      • Gather data and analyze information
    • Students are asked not to enroll in any other courses while they complete this experience
