Professional Biography

Suzanne Reese has a combined seven years of experience working in nonprofits and higher education. Her passion for academic advising developed while working at Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. As a requirement for her Master of Sport Science degree, she completed a mentorship with the athletic department, where she conceived and implemented the university's first Student Athlete Academic Success program. The program was recognized for its contribution to the success and retention of student-athletes.

Prior to moving back to Manhattan, Reese worked at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington, as the student success coordinator. Her role was to develop the university's Early Alert program, with the goal of proactively identifying students who may be at risk of academic difficulty or failure. In addition, she created a probation recovery program and met with students every semester to create academic improvement plans.

As an FSHS alumna, Reese is thrilled to be serving as an academic advisor in the school that she loves. She believes that students in the School of Family Studies and Human Services are among the most caring and empathetic on campus and feels privileged to be able to help students navigate their undergraduate experience.

Personal Information

Reese grew up in Jackson County, just north of Topeka, and comes from a long line of purple blood. She grew up playing basketball and volleyball, and she still enjoys participating in, watching and coaching her two children in these sports during her free time. Travel is also a strong interest of Reese's, and as a three-year resident on the island of Okinawa, she was able to travel often throughout Southeast Asia, riding elephants in Thailand, crawling through the Cu Chi tunnels in Vietnam and even corralling a feisty two-year-old on The Great Wall.

She is most at home in the Little Apple, however, and feels energized every day stepping onto the K-State campus.
