Transfer Courses
Transfer Course Evaluation
Transfer courses are evaluated as:
- equivalent to a K-State course.
- reasonable substitute for a required course.
- transferred as an elective.
- not transferable (not accepted by K-State).
- not applicable (transferred, but not applicable to degree requirements — e.g., vocational-technical, remedial or developmental courses equivalent to 0-level courses at K-State).
- not yet assigned (more information or review by the department is needed to evaluate for application).
Completed transfer courses are listed at the beginning of each student's DARS report, and application is indicated in the DARS audit. On evaluated option sheets, completed K-State courses are recorded with the grade earned. Courses completed at other institutions are recorded with a T preceding the grade earned (e.g., TA, TB, TC, TD) to designate a transfer grade. Transfer grades are NOT computed in the K-State grade point average.
Transfer courses with A "D" grade are accepted by K-State, but may not be applicable if a grade of "C" or higher is required. Courses completed Fall 1994 or later require grades of "C" or higher to be applied for Professional Studies requirements.
Planning Transfer Courses
Students planning to enroll at another college or university and transfer the courses to K-State should verify that the courses will transfer and apply as planned. See the Transfer Student website for transfer equivalency information.
Courses and institutions not included on the transfer equivalency list require individual evaluation. Information about the institution and the course description are needed. This information may be available on the Internet, or may be photocopied from the institution's catalog. The student completes an Approval Request for Off-Campus Enrollment form (available at the Justin Hall Reception Desk) and provides the form and information to the adviser for review. If the adviser approves, the form and information are forwarded to the Dean's Office for review. If approved, signed copies are returned to the student and the adviser, and one copy is filed in the student's Dean's Office folder. If not approved, the form will be returned to the student with an explanation.
Up to half of the credits required for a four-year degree may be completed at an accredited two-year college. Each student must complete at least 30 K-State resident credits to be considered for a degree from K-State. Further, the student must complete 20 of the last 30 hours of resident credit at K-State. A minimum of 45 hours must be at a course level of 300 or above.
