Graduation
Kansas State University awards undergraduate degrees in fall, spring and summer terms, however, only two commencement ceremonies are held — one in May and one in December. May and August degree candidates can participate in May Commencement. Only December degree candidates can participate in December Commencement. Two procedures help students make realistic graduation plans.
Graduation Requirement Checks (Grad Checks)
Grad Checks are prepared in the Dean's Office for students who have completed 85 credit hours. The purpose is to identify remaining requirements for completion of B.S. degree.
- Once the student has completed 85 hours, the Registrar's Office notifies the Dean's Office.
- The option sheet on file in the student's Dean's Office folder is updated and used to prepare the Grad Check.
- The remaining courses to be completed are highlighted on a copy of the option sheet and summarized on the Grad Check form.
- Copies are sent to the student and the adviser.
- The student is responsible for completing the remaining requirements in order to earn the degree.
Once the Grad Check has been prepared, any questions, substitutions, errors, or changes in program need to be cleared with the Dean's Office as soon as possible.
Application for Graduation Clearance (Grad Apps)
At the beginning of the semester or summer session in which the student plans to graduate, the student must file an Application for Graduation Clearance. This is a request to be considered for graduation.
- The Application for Graduation Clearance is available at the Justin Hall Reception Desk, and is due back to the Dean's Office during the first four weeks of the semester or the first two weeks of Summer Session II. The deadline dates are published in the Course Schedule each term.
- The student completes the form and lists remaining requirements to be completed.
- The application will be reviewed to verify remaining degree requirements. If approved, signed copies will be returned to the student and adviser, and the student will be added to the list of degree candidates. If the application is not approved, the student will be contacted directly with an explanation.
- Once the Application for Graduation Clearance has been approved, the student is responsible for notifying the Dean's Office if any changes occur.
- If the course requirements listed on the approved Application for Graduation Clearance are successfully completed, the student is eligible for the degree. If not, the student is removed from the graduation list and must re-file in another term.
