Minimum Requirements for All Programs in the College of Human Ecology (Effective Fall 1997)
As a foundation for a professional practice and life-long learning, graduates of the College of Human Ecology will be able to:
- Understand the interaction of people with their environments.
- Understand roles and dynamics within family and other human systems.
- Recognize and value diversity throughout the human experience.
- Access, analyze, and interpret data to make informed decisions.
- Articulate informed points of view on issues that affect individuals, families, and professional practice.
- Apply professional knowledge to improve the lives of people.
- Demonstrate standards of ethical conduct.
- Assume the responsibilities of citizenship.
All programs of study will meet the following minimum course requirements:
- Communications Courses (8-9)
- ENGL 100 Expository Writing I (3)
- ENGL 200 Expository Writing II (3)
- SPCH 105 Public Speaking IA (2)
or
SPCH 106 Public Speaking 1 (3)
- Quantitative Studies Courses (6)
- MATH 100 College Algebra (3)
or
A college level calculus course - A Statistics course
- MATH 100 College Algebra (3)
- Social Sciences (6)
(to include coursework in economic systems and human behavior) - Humanities (6)

- A minimum of 30 hours must be in Human Ecology or equivalent courses
Minimum hours required for a degree: 124
All students must meet University General Education Requirements of 18 credits in approved general education courses, six of which are upper division credits.
To ensure breadth in the general education experience, each student must complete at least one approved university general education course in four of the following areas:
- Quantitative Studies (except MATH 100)
- Economics
- Social Sciences
- Humanities
- Life Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- A course from a professional college
No course offered by the department/school in which a student is majoring can be applied to meet that student's university general education requirements.
Students should consult with their academic advisers to assure that their choices of approved university general education courses meet the required distribution.
The College of Human Ecology requires a grade of C or higher in all professional studies courses (Effective for courses completed Fall 1994 or after).
All prerequisite experiences for professional studies courses must be met (these will be listed on option sheets as required courses).
