Assignment to Classes

Program coordinators have developed scheduling guidelines for most academic programs. These recommended course sequences are listed on sequence sheets, and take into account balance of classes with laboratory, studio, lecture, recitation and reading requirements; prerequisites; level of course; and scheduling restrictions (fall or spring only, or time conflicts). Deviations from the recommended sequence need to be reviewed for these scheduling considerations.

Transfer Students

Transfer students require special attention to develop individualized plans for graduation. Advisers need to help transfer students plan to schedule key prerequisite courses and avoid overloading with laboratory/studio/heavy reading courses or lower level classes.

Course Load

The recommended semester course load for most undergraduates in the College of Human Ecology is 15 to 17 credit hours, including correspondence and continuing education courses. Students should enroll in no more than nine concurrent credit hours in Summer Session. Enrollment in more than one course per intersession is not recommended. Enrollment in KSU/Ft. Riley, Continuing Education, Intersession and Summer Sessions which totals more than nine credits will be approved only if student can prove sequential scheduling with no conflicts.

Full-Time Status

Enrollment in 12 credit hours per semester generally is required to be considered a full-time undergraduate student.

Overloads

Effective Fall 1992, students who want to enroll in more than 18 semester credit hours must have approval from their Academic Dean. Semester overloads up to 21 hours may be allowed if student has reasonable probability for successful completion. The Registrar notifies the Dean's Office when students enroll in overloads. Summer session overloads may be approved if courses are scheduled sequentially so that courses in session on any date during the summer session (including Division of Continuing Education courses) do not total more than nine credits.
