Absence Notification
See "Attendance" in K-State Undergraduate Catalog. Lafene Health Center does not provide written excuses for illnesses which cause absence from classes.
University Student Absence Notification Policy (Effective Fall 1993)
- Non-Emergency Student Absence Policy
- The student is responsible for contacting his or her instructor(s) when he or she is going to miss or has missed class.
- Emergency Student Absence Policy (absences caused by student's serious illness, or death or serious illness of close family member, which threaten the student's academic progress)
- The student is responsible for contacting the appropriate academic dean's office, or if unable to contact the appropriate dean's office, the Dean of Student Life Office.
- The two offices will form a partnership in assisting a student who needs to miss/has missed class for an emergency. The offices will record the student's name, I.D.#, courses to be missed/or missed, and telephone number where the student may be reached. The two offices will exchange the information received.
- The academic dean's offices will assume the responsibility for notification of the student's absences to the appropriate instructor(s).
In the case where a student is taking classes through the Division of Continuing Education, that office should be notified directly.
Each college and the Division of Continuing Education will have their individual respective policies regarding when they will and will not notify instructors of students' emergency absences. The College of Human Ecology Dean's Office notifies instructors and advisers of student absences when requested. Notification does not imply an excused absence.
