Short Biography

Dr. Sherry Haar received B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, and a Ph.D. degree at Virginia Tech. Dr. Haar has received awards for both her wearable art and functional design scholarship. Dr. Haar holds two patents on therapeutic designs for children with sensory dysfunctions. Dr. Haar’s current scholarship involves environmental and sustainable design with a focus on natural dyes. Dr. Haar grows her own dyestuffs from which she extracts dye for creative textile design and scientific evaluation.

Dr. Haar’s teaching has been recognized with teaching and student development awards. Course topics instructed by Dr. Haar include aesthetics and visual presentation, fashion rendering, computer aided design, pattern development, textile surface design, and research in design.
