Short Biography

Human development is the study of individual change; it includes change in our thinking, our emotions, our language, our physical skills, over time and within context. Development also attempts to understand the factors that differentiate us, one from another within context. How do children learn and how should we teach children? My research is multidisciplinary examining the efficacy of educational interventions during early childhood, particularly well-being and physical movement in early education and care programs. My international relationships have influenced my thinking immeasurably about children’s learning and teaching. Prior to joining the faculty in FSHS, I was on faculty at two HE institutions, taught as lead teacher in two preschool programs, engaged in home-based intervention services with disabled children and their disabled parents, and directed an institutional assessment program (see vita).
