Short Biography

Dr. Deb Canter came to Kansas State University as a faculty member in 1977 after completing her doctorate in food systems administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  She served as director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics from 1988 until she was named director of the graduate program in 2000.  She served as department head from 2004 until she returned to a regular faculty appointment in 2010.

Dr. Canter has received numerous honors during her career, including Case Professor of the Year for Kansas in 1991 from the Carnegie Foundation; winner of the Award for Excellence in the Practice of Dietetics Education from the American Dietetic Association in 1997; recipient of the Medallion Award from the American Dietetic Association in 2002; and selection as the 50th Lenna Frances Cooper Lecturer by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2012.  She is active in numerous professional, church and community organizations, is an avid dachshund lover and is known far and wise for her cheesecakes and love of all things culinary.
