2015 ATID Student Symposium
The 2015 keynote speaker, David Bright, KNOLL senior vice president of communications, gave a propelling lecture about the history of Florence Knoll and her impact on modern design, modern workplace and sustainable design. His presentation, "Florence Knoll: Defining Modern," was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom.
The lecture was part of a day-long event including a networking luncheon, professional development, panel discussions and breakout sessions for students, professionals and alumni. Students interacted with advisory board members and professionals from the interior design program and the apparel and textiles program.
On Thursday, April 16, 2015, the ATID Student Symposium opened with the 2nd Annual ATID Showcase of Excellence. This event included a mounted exhibit and a live runway show featuring work from K-State students and Kansas secondary education students. The showcase was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan, Kansas. Fifty entries by Kansas State University students were accepted for the runway show. Twenty-five entries by Kansas State University students and seven entries by Kansas secondary students were accepted for the mounted exhibit. In response to the symposium theme, "ALWAYS MODERN: Using Design to Connect People, Planet and Profit," awards were granted in the following categories: Best of Show Runway (must have addressed theme), Best of Show Mounted Exhibit (must have addressed theme), Textile Design inspired by KNOLL, Inspired by Janet Rees (pdf), K-State Upperclassman and Graduate, K-State Lowerclassman and 7-12 Kansas student.
This event was a great opportunity for current and prospective students to meet alumni, professionals and faculty within in the apparel and textiles and interior design industries. It provided students the opportunity to express their creativity and highlight their work at a prestigious, annual event. The Showcase of Excellence took place in conjunction with the annual ATID Student Symposium.
